Easter Egg Treasures

THURSDAY'S FOOD TIP

Every Easter when my sons were growing up, my husband and I would fill dozens of colorful plastic eggs with little "treasures" and hide the eggs under sofa cushions, on top of books in the bookcase, etc. When the boys came downstairs on Easter morning, their Easter baskets were in a prominent place on the dining room table. The boys also knew there were eggs hidden all over the main floor of our house.

I think this little activity was almost as much fun for my husband and me as it was for the boys, and today we both sort of miss it. But, years ago, we had to get a bit creative in order to fill most of the eggs with things other than candy. The boys got enough of that in their Easter baskets.

Here are some other "sweet" treasures our kids loved:

Colorful stickers

Pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters - if your children are old enough that you know they won't put these items in their mouths

Small toy figures - buy a bagful of these small plastic figures and you'll have enough to fill dozens of plastic Easter eggs

Plastic jewelry - small rings, pins, necklaces, etc. - you can get a bag of these at party shops, too

Easter buttons - with cute or silly Easter pictures and sayings

A dollar bill or a silver dollar - you can hide one of these items in a single egg which can be the BIG prize for the day

Goldfish® crackers - These little crackers are made with real cheese and they don't contain any artificial flavorings.

I'm sure you can think of other items that will delight everyone as they take part in the great Easter Egg Hunt this year.

Happy hunting!
