Monday's Food Tip: Squash Blossoms

Okay. I admit it. A squash blossom sounds like something you used to call that pesky kid in elementary school who always wanted to trade lunches.

"Gimme my sandwich back, you crazy squash blossom!"

See what I mean?

Actually though, squash blossoms are yellow, trumpet-shaped flowers that are edible and can be used to garnish soups and stews, or stuffed with cheese and herbs and fried until crispy.

Here’s an interesting article about squash blossoms and some great photos, from Kate’s Global Kitchen or try her recipe for Squash Blossom Hush Puppies.

Don't be fooled by the name. A squash blossom isn't pesky at all. It's really quite tasty.
