Saturday's Food Tip: Get This "Gotta Have" Kitchen Gadget

The other day a friend and I were talking about what we call "gotta have" gadgets for the kitchen. We both agreed that a sugar/flour shaker is among the handiest gadgets around if you do a lot of baking, as we do.

A sugar/flour shaker has a fine mesh top which sifts the sugar or flour as it comes out of the shaker, so it is always smooth and silky. Most shakers also have a clear plastic storage lid to keep the contents fresh and dry.

A sugar/flour shaker usually holds about 1 cup of sugar, flour, or a mixture of spices, etc. Fill it with flour and it's very handy whenever you need to dust a cake pan before baking a cake. Fill the shaker with powdered sugar and easily decorate the top of a cake or tart without getting out the big bag of powdered sugar and the sifter to do so. You can even use the shaker to give serving plates a decorative touch if you fill it with powdered sugar, cinnamon, or any other dry spice.

If you don’t already have a sugar/flour shaker, you can find one at most fine kitchenware stores, from your Pampered Chef consultant, or at the following online stores:
