Wednesday's Food Tip: Just for Kids - Hamburger "Cookies"

Here’s something to make with your children - just for fun - although the children will enjoy eating them. After you’ve prepared these hamburger "cookies" the children can invite their teddy bears to a "Teddy Bear Picnic" and serve them some of the hamburgers.

Don’t they look like the real thing? The bears will be very impressed.

HAMBURGER COOKIES

For each cookie you will need:

A miniature mint patty
Two vanilla wafer type cookies
Yellow powdered sugar frosting
Red powdered sugar frosting
Clear corn syrup
Sesame seeds
Optional: Shredded coconut, colored with a little green food coloring

Use a knife to spread yellow frosting (for mustard) onto the flat side of a vanilla wafer. This will be the bottom half of the hamburger bun. Set the mint patty on top of this cookie. Spread red food coloring (for ketchup) onto the flat side of another vanilla wafer. This will be the top half of the hamburger bun. Put it on top of the mint patty. Spread a little clear corn syrup onto the top bun. Sprinkle sesame seeds onto the bun and they will stick to the corn syrup.

Optional: Sprinkle a little green shredded coconut (for lettuce) onto the mint patty before topping it with the second vanilla wafer.
