Friday's Food Tip: Here's a Quick and Delicious Way to Thicken Homemade Soups and Sauces!

This time of year homemade soups and sauces are a welcome part of any good meal. But sometimes getting just the right consistency to that soup or sauce can be a bit tricky. You certainly don't want to keep adding cornstarch or flour to your special creation and destroy the taste, so here's a tip to try instead.

Use a little leftover mashed potatoes to thicken your soups and sauces.

If you'll be making mashed potatoes next week for Thanksgiving dinner, save some and freeze them. Later this winter, when you're making those hearty soups or sauces, just pull out the frozen potatoes and break off a few tablespoons or so and add them to the soup pot or saucepan. The potatoes will add flavor to your soup or sauce as it thickens it.
