Sunday's Food Tip: Make a Food "Find" in a Small Town!

With offerings like Pecan Praline Bread Pudding with Caramel Sauce, and Kansas Coffee Cake, it’s no wonder the Marigold Bakery & Café in Atchison, Kansas is such a popular stop for both visitors and residents alike in this quaint little midwestern town.

Friends visiting from California and I had lunch at the Marigold Bakery & Cafe yesterday. We didn’t go to Atchison specifically to eat. We went to shop.

But lunch was so delicious at the Marigold, we bought extra treats to take home – Apple Dumplings, Cinnamon Pull-Aparts, and something called (I think) Chocolate-Popcorn-Peanut-Caramel Crunch.

One of my friends was particularly pleased to discover the Kansas Coffee Cake. For her, that was a true food "find," and after enjoying a piece of the cake for dessert, she bought several bags of Kansas Coffee Cake mix to take back to friends and family in California so they can enjoy it, too.

So the next time you pass through, or visit, a small town, stop in at one of the local eateries. You just might make a new food "find" of your own and want to visit this place on a regular basis.

I know I’ll be going back to the Marigold Bakery & Café.
