Cooking With Kids

SATURDAY'S FOOD TIP

It's Saturday and the kids are out of school. Why not start spending part of each weekend teaching your children how to cook? Each Saturday I'll post a fun recipe or other cooking activity you can enjoy with your children over the weekend.

Start with something simple instead of an entire meal. Like this Ape Shake. With a name like that, what kid wouldn't want to make these for the whole family?

Help your child measure out all the ingredients and pour them into the blender. You can take over and monitor the blender at that point. When all the Ape Shakes are made, don't forget to put the blender away so your child won't try using it on his own sometime when you aren't there to supervise.

APE SHAKE

1 c. milk
1/2 c. plain yogurt
1 Tbsp. honey or molasses
1 banana, broken into chunks

Blend all ingredients in blender or mixer. Serves 2 to 3 children.

CAUTION: Children (and adults) may start acting like monkeys after drinking these shakes.

I do not like
green eggs and ham." -Dr. Seuss, Green Eggs and Ham, 1960
