Friday's Food Tip - One Way to Avoid Food Contamination

Today's tip comes from Dave Knechel, known as "Marinade Dave." Dave knows a thing or two about food safety since he once owned a restaurant. Here's his tip to avoid food contamination:

"Every time I tell someone this, they always go, hmmm, I never thought about that, kind of like never checking the dirty grime under a can opener."

Whenever spreading a condiment, such as mayonnaise or mustard, on a sandwich, never touch the meat or cheese(or anything with an expiration date.)

This contaminates the condiment and changes its expiration date to that of the product it came into contact with. Either spread it on the bread, or clean the spreader before coming into contact with the condiment again."
