Crockpots are so convenient. You just put the food in the pot, leave it there to cook all day, and by dinnertime you can have a complete meal on the table in minutes. But did you know you should NOT lift the lid on the crockpot while the food is cooking? If you do, it makes the temperature in the pot drop from 10 to 15 degrees, which can significantly lengthen the cooking time needed for what's in the pot.
That's why crockpots have clear glass lids - so you can see the steam condensing on the inside of the lid and know the crockpot is "on."
