This is one of the best tips I've learned over the years. I think I got it from watching one of Martha Stewart's shows:
Did you know that stainless steel can remove odors like garlic and onions from your hands? Sounds strange, but it's true. After you've chopped onions or garlic, rub a stainless steel spoon between your hands, or rub the DULL edge of a large stainless steel knive. You can even rub your hands in your stainless steel sink, if you have one. The garlic or onion smell on your hands will be gone, just like magic.
